Yarn Magazine

In 2005, drawing on my career background in magazine editing and my passion for knitting, I launched an Australian knitting magazine called Yarn.

Run out of my home office, the magazine gained an international readership with its focus on great writing as well as beautiful photography and styling, and patterns for knitters of varied interests and experience.

The trials, triumphs and tribulations of Yarn would easily fill a book. One of the many highpoints was Yarn 3, published June 2006, particularly the cover image (shot by Richard Humphrys,).

The still life featured on this cover marked my first serious effort as a photo stylist. The idea grew from a series of drawings in my sketchbook and took form through careful
inventory of commercial yarns and different knitting needles, and the tableware in my home (as well as those of my close friends).

I worked as owner/publisher (as well as many other roles) until selling the magazine in January 2008 to new owners. Yarn 3 remains the best-selling edition of the magazine under my watch, and the yarn-as-tea cover is the most consistently remarked upon of the eight magazines I published.
